Artist - Painter in Oils |

In the Spring i established my studio as temporary installation, pilot for a permanent establishment. |

Authenticity is of great importance. Paint and medium has changed little since the time of Mr Turner and with the assistance of Winsor & Newton, Artists Colourmen since the 1830s, i was able to reproduce their labels as they were in 1904 for paint, medium and turpentine. With Winsor & Newton colour in the unpainted aluminium tubes of Then and sourcing suitable corked bottles these essentials of the Artists’ Studio sat happily next to my well-used palette and knives. |

Beside my materials another studio essential is tea. The limitations of the building precluded use of gas so i took to an earlier method with kettle on trivet. The heat from candles was barely sufficient but nothing else was appropriate. A suitable set of tea things helped to make my stay as comfortable as could be expected. Though these several items all dated from the late Victorian my tea strainer dated to the late 1970s as illustration of the enduring presence of tea in British culture. Our preference Now as Then can be seen as indication of likes and dislikes that transcend time and fashion. |

I had intended to make visitors comfortable and the chairs proved popular during the Private View Soiree. I wished the Thursday event to be more social in the form of a Soiree where friends could meet and art could be the subject of the evening. The setting both domestic and practical offered much for the visitor and many lingered. |
