May 2010 Exhibition

Me Then Now

At

Kingsgate

The gallery at Kingsgate Workshops in Kilburn was host to an exhibition of my paintings, site specific installations and performative works.

(1) Stories from the Kilbrn Times of April and May 1904 & 2010 were printed on newsprint paper the size of the painted bricks of the gallery wall, the people in the stories a part of the Kilburn area as Kingsgate is a part of the area.

(2) The paint was stripped from a 15x22” area of wall to reveal the layers beneath as a portrait of the building.

(3) The paintings were hung against a wall coloured with traditional distemper paint. They can be seen in more detail in the following pages of mostly landscape subjects.

(4) Visitors were offered an opportunity to write a letter needing only inspiration to set pen to paper.

A mural in distemper of a view across West End Green as it was in 1904 was painted in the gallery over the duration of the exhibition.
